How to Reduce Stress

Stress has been linked to a variety of illnesses and sicknesses such as high blood pressure, poor blood flow, heart attack, and stroke. Daily, we are faced with stressors, putting our body into “fight or flight” mode. Here are some ways to reduce the impact of stress on your life:
How to Reduce Stress

Deep Breathing

Stop and take a deep breath through your nose, and let it out slowly from yourmouth. By breathing deeply, you are telling your brain to relax. This will help to decrease your heart rate and blood pressure.

Go for a jog. Jump in the pool. Put on some music and dance. Just get moving! When you exercise, you are increasing your body’s production of endorphins. Working out will help keep you in good physical health, and will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Yoga will help increase your strength and flexibility while decreasing stress, blood pressure and cortisol levels. This practice focuses on a mind, body, and spirit connection, strengthening your physical and mental health. Yoga requires you to concentrate on your breath, allowing you to let go of external thoughts and stressors.

Meditation is a way of calming the body, allowing it to restore and repair itself. Meditating helps to slow your heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol production. Spend at least 5 minutes clearing your mind through meditation, and you will love the benefits!

If something is stressing you out, talk about it! If you confide in a calm listener, you will feel relieved! It could be a friend, spouse, coworker, therapist, or person behind you at the grocery store. Recognize and verbalize what is stressing you out!
