Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is an approach to the therapeutic process that typically includes both parties in each session. The goal is for the therapist to help the pair change how they interact with each other to foster more productive communication. If you are having problems in your romantic relationship, you might consider looking into getting into couples counseling. The skills learned here are invaluable and can be applied to making your current or future relationship work.

Communication is key.

It may sound cheesy or cliche, but a lack of or ineffective communication is often at the root of many couples’ issues. We as people naturally communicate differently with many contributing factors. From cultural differences to childhood instability, a person’s history can influence how they interpret how people speak to them as well as how they speak to others. The goal here is to learn how to communicate well with your significant other and because everyone is different, the process to getting there will be different for everyone.

Resolving conflicts.

While communication is absolutely vital to the process, if there is still conflict within the relationship there will still be tension. The goal here is for the therapist to mediate the conflict and to help you and your partner learn new skills in conflict resolution. This can be rooted in anything from infidelity to financial difficulty. Whatever the challenges you are facing, an unbiased trained third party can help bring them to a resolution.
